The Savoy Apartment renovation consists of the adaptive reuse of over 30,000 SF of a 100-year-old, four-story furniture building in central El Paso. The full scope of the project included restoring the dilapidated second through fourth floors into modern loft apartments and transforming underutilized storage space on the first floor into over 8,000 SF of leasable commercial space. The incorporation of retail and residential square footage into the fabric of downtown El Paso has been a significant asset in attracting residents and consumers to a previously underutilized area of the city. Root Architects and In*Situ Architects were responsible for the full design, phasing plan, and construction administration, as well as working with El Paso Economic Development to secure tax rebates, grants, and incentives.
